Old and new I started offering regular classes and lectures on witchcraft and magic back in the 1980s. In the 1990s someone gave me the idea to record my talks. I did not know what I was going to do with all those cassette tapes that were piling up, but I dutifully lugged my old tape recorder everywhere I gave a talk, and kept those old cassettes for years. In the mid-2000s, as I started my podcast called A Witch's Primer, we also began digitizing the live talks of those old cassettes. I created a second podcast just for these newly digitized lectures. We released episodes of the old live talks alternating with new studio talks I was also recording regularly. The sound quality of many of the live talks is abysmal, but It delighted me that both the old live lectures and the newer studio one grew a fairly large and enthusiastic listener base. I now call all the recordings from this lecture podcast the Vintage Lectures. I took a hiatus for a few years and shut down the podcasts. I came back to giving regular talks last year. YouTube is my current venue for releasing new material, but I still toy to start another podcast in the future. My current online talks happen live each week on my Soulful Sunday YouTube streams. I call these more current talks Livestream Lectures. On my weekly Thrilling Thursday stream, I also frequently give lectures specifically on prosperity. Household Magic The art of household magic is vastly practiced. The methods used are as varied as are all the different cultures who have engaged in it throughout history. In this post, household magic refers to a magical practice that requires absolutely no tools other than those you can find in your home right now. Since you can practice household magic with no special equipment, it is also a perfect system for any practitioner who prefers to keep their magic strictly stealth. The Ritual of Divine Order is one of the most basic, and also most powerful household magic rituals you can perform. You can use it to help you solve any problem you may be experiencing. The Ritual of Divine Order 1. Decide which problem needs to be solved. 2. Find a single space in your home that needs to be tidied and cleaned (a room, a drawer, a cabinet...). 3. Say, "As I establish order in this space so is Divine Order established in (name the situation). So mote it be." 4. Start cleaning up this space, chanting either silently or aloud all the while: DIVINE ORDER IS ESTABLISHED IN MY MIND RIGHT NOW DIVINE ORDER IS ESTABLISHED IN MY BODY RIGHT NOW DIVINE ORDER IS ESTABLISHED IN MY AFFAIRS RIGHT NOW 5. Once the space is completely in order, stop chanting. Relax and feel at peace. Say firmly, "So mote it be." You may perform this ritual under any lunar phase except the dark moon or during any eclipse. Any day of the week is appropriate for this ritual. The ritual as I have given it here is extremely effective; you don't need to add anything to give it more power. This money charm is simple to make, a lot of fun and very effective. This spell is best performed on a Sunday during the first week after a new moon. Ingredients: 1. A green or white candle 2. Salt 3. A Cinnamon Stick 4. Red cord, twine, ribbon, or yarn 5. Jasmine perfume or oil 6. A coin of any denomination in your local currency Procedure: 1. Scratch the stick with the coin, drawing towards you, thinking of your desire. 2. Leaving some slack at the end, wind the red cord around the stick lengthwise, keeping the winds as uniform as possible. 3. Holding it secure with one hand, wrap the cord around and around towards you with your other hand. 4. Chant "money, money come to me; money, come to me today; as I will, so mote it be," while you are winding. 5. When you are finished winding, tuck the loose end under the long end of the cord to secure it. 6. Trim off any excess cord. 7. Anoint the charm with jasmine perfume. 8. Put a ring of salt around the charm, place the candle in the ring next to the charm and light the candle. 9. Let the candle burn down and out. Hide the charm somewhere in your home. 10. Magic is your birthright. Magic is not something for an elite few. Magic is not something you must be born into. Magic is an art and just like any other art, it must be studied and practiced. Talent alone is not enough. You were born with certain inherent magical abilities which can be built, strengthened and used for your good. The first and most important step in learning to harness your magical abilities is that of focus and concentration. Any decent magical tradition will teach its students how to train their unruly minds from the outset. When you train your mind, you notice immediate results. You can begin today to train your mind for magic just by first noticing what you are saying to yourself and to others. Especially note your idle speech. Anytime you notice yourself discussing anything you don’t want more of in your life, learn to turn your speech patterns around so that your words conform to what you do want instead. For example, if you are looking at a piece of clothing on a website and notice yourself saying, “I could NEVER afford that,” simply turn that around and say something like, “even though I don’t have the cash for that right now, I know I can afford it if I really want it.” Just by making slight adjustments to your speech, you begin to train your mind for magic. Of course magical training includes much more than only this, but when you keep up the simple practice outlined above, you find that you have much more power to change things than you ever realized. We remain uncertain of the exact origins of strings of prayer beads, but their early use is recorded in multiple cultures throughout history. Prayer beads are fingered to allow the practitioner to keep a count of the number of prayers that have been performed, thus allowing them to focus their attention solely on the prayers themselves. Likewise, cord, or knot magic, has been a part of the folk and oral traditions of many cultures farther back than we can remember. Knots tied into cords or ropes during the repetitions of chants, incantations, spells, prayers and curses forms the basis of a great deal of magical practice throughout many magical cultures. The use of knots on prayer cords in Christianity dates back to the 3rd and early 4th centuries. These were primarily devices used for counting prayers such as the Lord's Prayer. From about the year 431, there began an increased use of Marian prayers (prayers to the Virgin Mary) while using these prayer cords, which later evolved into the Catholic Rosary. The Catholic Rosary The term Rosary comes from the Latin rosarium "rose garden" and is an important and traditional devotion of the Catholic Church. The modern Catholic Rosary combines prayer and meditation in sequences (called “decades") of the Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, Gloria Patri as well as a number of other prayers (such as the Apostles' Creed and the Salve Regina). The prayers are accompanied by meditation on different Catholic Mysteries which are events in the life and ministry of Jesus. This traditional Catholic form of the rosary is attributed to Saint Dominic, though some Catholic writers have doubted this claim. Mary's Psalter The early rosaries were a complete circle of five decades, but with no tail or crucifix as has the modern Catholic rosary. A complete Rosary sequence was prayed for a total of 15 decades, meaning the 5-decade Rosary was prayed three times through. This could be done all at once, or throughout the day (one round of 5 decades in the morning, one at midday, and one in the evening). The completed 15 decades meant that a total of 150 Hail Marys were prayed. This is why the Rosary was also known as “Mary’s Psalter,” as this was the same as the number of Psalms in the Bible. Being that many people were illiterate, and were incapable of reading the psalms each day, praying the rosary was considered a substitute for praying the Psalms. The Witch’s Ladder There is a common practice in modern witchcraft to use a type of rosary called A Witch’s Ladder. This can be a string of beads or a cord with knots. The number of beads or knots used varies depending on the practitioner and their tradition, or the symbolism desired by the practitioner. The Witch’s ladder is used in a similar fashion to other types of prayer beads, as well as being a counting device for incantations, affirmations and chants. It is interesting to note that the pagan origins of the Rosary are one of the fundamental reasons many non-Catholic Christians cite as being their aversion to the use of the Rosary. How to work the Witch’s Rosary The system of Rosary Magic I am presenting here is one that been tried and true for me for decades (pardon the pun); it is one of those practices that gives impeccable results. Everyone I know who has used it sincerely and regularly for a few months has agreed with me. I certainly hope you try it. In a pinch, a regular Catholic Rosary can be used to work this operation. For my first foray into this work, I purchased a simple Rosary from a local Catholic supply shop, and it worked beautifully. However, I found I really couldn’t relate to having a crucifix on my rosary. It's a tool of my Craft and I wanted a WITCH'S Rosary. I went on my quest. I soon realized that finding a five decade rosary without a crucifix is not so easy to do; so I found someone to custom make a rosary for me. Some Five-Decade Witch's Rosaries: You need something to mark where the beginning and end of a Rosary. You may use anything you like at the end of your rosary (even just a simple tassel). Most people like to use some sort of charm such as a pentagram, hexagram, ankh, equal armed cross, Celtic cross, spiral, triskelion, skull, dragon... it can be anything that you like. One option in creating your rosary is to repurpose a Catholic rosary. You do this by removing the "tail" (the part that hangs off the main circle with the crucifix at the end), and replacing it with a charm or tassel according to your tastes. An experienced jeweler may be required depending on how the rosary was originally constructed. If you don't want to or can't make or repurpose your own rosary, you can simply have one custom made for you like I did. Etsy is an excellent source for custom made Witch’s Rosaries. We know several Etsy artists who have started producing rosaries to our specifications. You can see their lovely wares here. The Prayers/Chants/Invocations Being that the early church tended to “borrow” many pagan customs, I saw no problem in “borrowing back” several of them for my magic. A witch tends to use whatever works. I discovered the Witch’s Rosary is a highly effective method of magic that always gives me wonderful results. I have adopted the earliest forms of the prayers and written them in a manner that is as clear and free of superstition as possible. Also, the earliest known form of the rosary itself is what is called for in this operation: a five decade circle with no tail. These chants and this rosary practice are the closest proximity to their original pre-christian roots that I could come up with. The Goddess Prayer The Hail Mary (Ave Maria) in its earliest form was, “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” This was a prayer based on two separate pieces of new testament scripture: “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;” and, “Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” The later addition of “Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death,” was added later in the 14th Century, along with naming Jesus as the fruit of Mary’s womb. I see Mary as a clear biblical symbol for Mari, the sea, the womb and the divine mother, the older, more primitive Hail Mary seems to be a carry-over from earlier goddess worship. The form of the prayer I developed for use when using the Witch’s Rosary is thus: Holy Mother, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. So mote it be. This is a potent prayer to and invocation of the Divine Mother that gives the practitioner a visceral experience of the presence of the Universal Goddess in a very pure form: We address her: “Holy Mother” We name her nature: “full of grace” We acknowledge her consort: “the Lord is with you” We acknowledge her universality: “blessed are you among women” We acknowledge her as the mother of all things: “blessed is the fruit of your womb.” The God Prayer The Lord’s Prayer, taken from the New Testament, is one of the simplest, yet most remarkable invocations ever written. The common prayer is prayed thus: “Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.” My version which I use is: Our Father, in Heaven, your name is sacred. Your Kingdom is come, your will is done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we have forgiven our debtors. Lead us out of temptation, and deliver us from evil. So mote it be. It is clear that we are addressing the masculine god form (Chokma on the Tree of Life) in the opening, “Our Father.” In the bible, the name of something is its nature. It is the nature of the Father in Heaven to be sacred. You could thus very easily encapsulate the opening line of this prayer as “Father Sky, you are sacred.” Try praying the Lord’s Prayer that way and see how it feels. The occult meaning for Heaven or “sky” is not a place separate and distinct from us. It is the realm of the Superconscious, which is within us. In the next lines, two important Hermetic principles are stated. a)“Your kingdom is come, your will is done” states that Power flows from the causative plane into manifestation; and, b). “On earth as it is in heaven,” states That which is above, is reflected below. “Give us this day our daily bread” means “fulfill all our needs this day.” We are expressing the fact that we receive the means to fulfill all of our needs on a daily basis. We are not saying, “Give us enough for the rest of this month,” we are claiming our faith in the Power, by stating, “fulfill our needs this day.” We have absolute certainty that tomorrow’s needs will be filled tomorrow. “Forgive us our debts as we HAVE forgiven our debtors.” Notice the tense we are using in this version. We are claiming forgiveness of all of our own errors, transgressions and mistakes because we acknowledge that we have already forgiven everyone who has been indebted to us on any level. We are simply stating a magical law. We owe no Karmic debts because we have already done our part by forgiving all others; therefore, we can claim forgiveness for ourselves liberally, here and now. “Lead us out of temptation and deliver us from evil,” encapsulates simply the thought, “give me the guidance in each moment to make the correct choices, and keep my mind, body and actions focussed on that which is for my highest good.” The basic thoughts encapsulated in our chant are,“Father Sky, you are sacred. Your power is here, now. Your will is done; as is above, so is below. Meet all my needs this day. Forgive all my debts, as I have forgiven all my debtors. Give me the guidance in each moment to make only right choices and right actions; and keep me focussed on only that which is for the highest good.” The Lord’s Prayer is commonly spoken in the royal “we,” however you can see that you may easily pray it in the first person if you desire to, as well. There is no reason you can’t make any prayer, spell, invocation or incantation your own as long as you understand what you are doing and why you are doing it. The Crossing The act of crossing oneself did not originate with Christianity. It is a universal method of blessing that is used as a way of grounding and centering and self blessing. The Catholic version of crossing oneself, names the Christian trinity by stating, “In the name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.” The trinity of the Christian belief seems also to be something that was borrowed from earlier practices, but was obviously changed and made purely masculine. To us, the Holy Spirit is Shekinah, who is the Goddess. The Son, is called the “Holy Child,” which denotes the Higher Self, The Son of Man in the Psalms, the Mabon in the Celtic mysteries, Pan in the old Craft, etc. So we relate here to the primitive version of the holy trinity in its original form, which is simply Father, Mother, Child. I use a method of crossing myself which I find to be quite effective, and in keeping with my understanding of the inner mysteries. I touch my forehead and say, “I call on the Father.” I touch my breast, and say, “the Mother, I touch first one shoulder, and then the other whilst saying, “and the Holy Child,” I bring my hands together over my heart and say, “Blessed be.” You may, instead, want to use what is called the Qabalistic Cross: Touch: the forehead: “Ateh" (thou art) the breast: “Malkuth” (the kingdom) the right shoulder: “Ve Geburah” (the power) the left shoulder: “Ve Gedulah” (the glory) bring the hands together over the heart: “Le Olam, Amen” (forever, so be it). In the Qabalistic Cross, the right shoulder is touched first, in the Christian cross, the left shoulder is touched first. There are several reasons for the difference, the most pragmatic being that in Hebrew, one reads from the right to the left, and Latin and German based languages are read from left to right. There may be also Qabalistic significances as well as crossing from the right to the left could be seen as the lightning bolt descending the tree, and crossing left to right could be seen as the Serpent climbing the tree. I recommend that when doing the WItch’s Cross, you try it both ways and notice the difference, if any, that you experience. This way you can make up your own mind based on your experience rather than being told what to do. The Rosary Spell The performance of Rosary magic is quite simple. You will undoubtedly notice the great power that is raised when performing the ritual. It becomes more potent the more you practice it. You may notice that you go into an altered state as a result of the repetitive chants. This is a good thing. Just do your best to stay focussed on your goal and also on the meaning behind the words you are chanting, even as you go into a trance. I have noticed that it is most effective when chanted aloud, but if you prefer to do it in silence that is fine as well. Try it both ways and notice the difference you experience between the two. Begin by dedicating your rosary session to a specific goal: “I dedicate this rosary to perfect harmony in my home,” “I dedicate this rosary to a ten percent increase in my salary,” “I dedicate this rosary to the complete health of my mother’s body,” etc.; Perform a crossing ritual, or a grounding and centering meditation. Begin on your first large bead, by chanting one God prayer; For each of the 10 smaller beads which follow chant one Goddess prayer (10 prayers in all); Repeat this process until all 5 decades of your Rosary have been completed; Feel and state gratitude that it is done; Complete a total of three rounds for the same purpose throughout the day if possible. While three rounds daily is recommended, even one or two rounds per day is remarkably effective. Take time while reciting the prayers to feel the meaning of each prayer to the best of your ability, but also keep a consistent rhythm whilst chanting. Take time to envision your goal either during the recitations, just prior and/or after you have completed the rosary. Perform a final crossing, or grounding and centering. Feel free to experiment. You may want to use completely different prayers than those given here; or you may be lead to use all Goddess prayers, or all God prayers in a particular session with your Rosary. In my experience, the Witch’s Rosary as I have presented it here, is one of the most satisfying and highly effective magical techniques I have ever used. There are old wisdom sayings such as, "God looks through the face of the sun," or "The sun is a disc of gold hiding God's face." On the Tree of Life of the Hermetic Qabalah, the sixth sphere is the sphere of the sun. The sun represents the Universal Life Principle. This sixth sphere has been called the Sphere of the Miraculous. It represents a force of the universe that is capable of doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves. To invoke the power of this sphere, I use a device called The Solar Light. The Solar Light is the force that has all power to heal and correct. It has a reorganizing ability that takes every aspect of our minds, bodies, and affairs and reorganizes them so that they conform to the Divine Design. To call on the Solar Light is simplicity itself. Simply relax your body and mind for a moment. See a beautiful ray of golden sunlight pouring through the crown of your head. See this light moving down your spinal column, lighting your spine up with Solar Light. Next, see this beautiful golden Solar Light move into your bloodstream. See your bloodstream carry this beautiful light to every cell and atom of your body. Then see the Solar Light move into your respiratory system. Breathe the golden light into every part of your body, mind, and affairs as you see your entire aura glowing with rich, Solar Light. Tell yourself that The Solar Light now heals you. The Solar light now reorganizes every aspect of your life to conform to the Divine Design. Give thanks that this is so. I remember an old saying, "Yard by yard is hard, but Inch by inch is a cinch?" I love that. Often, I see people attempting to cast spells to cure macro problems, such as moving from abject poverty to extreme opulence, landing a job in the top position right out of the gate, moving from being single to happily marred, etc. These big goals are essential to have, but if those who cast these spells would only then break these big goals down into manageable chunks and then cast their spells on those smaller goals, they would notice that their spells would gain a "success momentum," rather than being a source of frequent disappointment. Many beginners give up in frustration when they start working magic because they don't understand this principle. Micro Magic, as I call it, can turn things around immediately. Many who try this technique notice they start having magical success in more meaningful ways than ever before, and right away! These people report that their perceived sphere of influence expands rapidly because of the constant state of success in which they are immersed. Expand your sphere of influence rather than trying to go for goals that may be currently out of reach. Those very large goals can be successfully, easily, and joyfully reached when approached inch-by-inch rather than yard-by-yard. I explained this technique in more detail a few years back. Training your mind for magic is essential if you desire success in the Art. A focused mind is a powerful mind. Yet, it is also the QUIET mind that gets things done. An adept can respond to any situation with power and poise. Do you respond to problems with a reaction of upset, fear, anger, irritation, or do you respond with a calm certainty that you will prevail? Responding to a situation with poise, grace and a calm mind means that your problem is outmatched, and that success is certain and imminent. Your connection to Infinite Spirit is adequate enough to handle any situation, but it requires training to choose to turn to this Power rather than reacting to your predicament with fear. The ability to focus takes practice. Each morning for the next 14 days, try the following experiment: 1. Find a place where you can be undisturbed for a few minutes. 2. Sit in a chair with your spine straight, your legs uncrossed, and your hands on your knees or in your lap. 3. Relax your body and mind. 4. With every inhale, mentally tell yourself the word "BLESSED." 5. With every exhale, mentally repeat the word "BE". 6. Whenever your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the practice. 7. After 1 minute, gently open your eyes. The next day, try increasing your time to two minutes. Keep adding another minute each day until you get to anywhere from five to twenty minutes. If it is ever a strain to keep up your focus, simply reduce the amount of time. After only a couple of weeks of doing this, notice your ability to maintain poise amid apparent problems. Fairytales speak of living happily ever after. Instead of thinking of ever after as an expanse of time, consider ever after to mean the present moment. Eternity exists now. Eternity is not an accumulation of time. When we say we want to unburden ourselves eternally, it means that our present moment is perpetually free from all burden. If we notice that that we are not burden-free in the present moment, we can decide that we no longer want to keep the burden we are carrying and ask a higher power to remove it for us. Feeling burdened with the weight of the world on our shoulders is the opposite of power. Many of us are proud that we shoulder these heavy burdens. We try to carry burdens that Infinite Intelligence could never mean for us to carry. How many of the world's problems are you capable of actually solving by yourself today? Probably none. The more we recognize that we have only power to change that which is in our Sphere of Influence, the happier we are, and the better off the entire world actually is. The more we stay stuck in a self-imposed isolation of "fixing" problems that are not ours to fix, the longer we are incapable of being any real help to the world. As we let go of the need to manage the world and the people in it, we come instead to the cradle of power, which is our own freedom to choose to yield to the power of our own soul. That which your soul desires to accomplish in this lifetime is what many call your True Will, and is where all of your talents, your joy, your prosperity are, and is where all the good in your life lives. Your soul is an extension of Infinite Light. This divine light is who you are. You are truly a star in the company of stars. Infinite Spirit can only do for us, what it can do through us. This often means that the very best spell we can cast is that of completely stepping out of the way and letting Spirit work through us. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. It's not very powerful to believe in something blindly. It's best to prove for ourselves whether something is what it purports to be. This is as true for the Goddess as it is for anything else. Rather than believe in something, we must either prove it to ourselves, or eliminate the belief all together. Proving the Goddess for ourselves is something we can do today if we like: Think of a pressing problem or desire. Call on the presence of the Goddess. Sit with the idea of the Holy Mother who has all power to heal and correct. She has all power to undo any problem. Completely give your problem to her. Then sit and listen. Find the thoughts that are from Her by relaxing and noticing where the peace exists within you. Allow yourself to follow this peace. Any time your mind wanders, gently bring it back to peace again and again. Just a few moments at a time is necessary, but repeat the process several times per day, every day. This peace is her. She exists as peace and within peace. Allow yourself to return to her a bit each day, making sure that you give your problem to Her and sit in the midst of her peace, listening to what you receive. Then take your life as it comes and notice the shifts in the situation each day as it begins to resolve itself in her way and in Her time. Are there stuck places in your life? Are there knots you can't untie? Have what seem like unsolvable problems confronted you? There is a force that has all power to heal and correct. It knows precisely what's wrong and how to fix it. We know this power as the Goddess. Nature always tends toward healing, correction, rebalancing. She knows exactly what to do at all times and requires absolutely no help from us. But in the realms of consciousness, we have free will. We can choose to experience anything we desire. If what we desire is out of harmony with the will of All That Is, then we experience problems. You were not created at some moment in the past and then abandoned and left on your own to find your way back home. You are being created at every instant, and are constantly safely in the presence of the very love that is perpetually creating you. We ponder vain thoughts which all boil down to "How can I be special?" This one little insane idea, "How can I separate myself from infinite good?" is responsible for the seemingly eternal nightmares that we experience. Our nightmares sometimes seem pleasant to us, however, so we assume that we just have to take the good with the bad, because "that's life." When we develop a relationship with the Goddess, we discover she can expertly untie all the knots we have gotten ourselves tangled up in. She will undo all the consequences of our individual vain imaginings, along with the vain imaginings of the entire species. 1). Connect with the Goddess daily, in silence; then, 2) take your life as it comes; every problem that presents itself to you, invoke her presence and ask for release, rather than trying to figure it all out on your own, or resist it. Eight On our Hermetic Tree of Life, we know the eighth sphere as Glory or Splendor. Sphere Eight is the sphere of mental activity. Whereas the sevens described romance, beauty and betterment; the eights break it all down and codify it all. Eight is the sphere of Mercury, the planet of intellect, education, language, and communication. Eight is a balanced, even number. Even numbers denote constancy, and the eighth sphere's only constant is change. Eight is a continuous running current of mental force that is forever figuring, tallying, chatting, reworking, networking, discussing, etc. The eighth sphere is where all the messenger and trickster gods dwell: Mercury, Hermes, Loki, etc. Sphere Eight is at one time the educator, the researcher, the translator, the joke teller, the entertainer, the communicator and the bringer of the cold, hard truth. Of all the pips, the eights really depend on the surrounding cards to tell their part of the story. The Eighth sphere is the sphere of yellows, lavenders, greys and pastel colors. The Eight of Wands Wands are our passions. Wands are our jobs, our work, our careers. The Eight of Wands often portends a great deal of activity and change. This can be in the category of work, but not necessarily. Pay close attention to the other cards in the reading because they will tell more of the story of what this change and activity is all about. Eights can show how everything in our lives depends on relationships, and this card can often point to a need for clear and direct communication. In a reading, this card describes a quick change in some area of life, look to the other cards to describe what that change might be. The Eight of Cups Cups are our emotions, our love life and our spiritual life. Eights are communication and mental activity; thus the Eight of cups is our own innate power of intuition. This card describes the ability to communicate with our own souls through the power of intuition. This also is a card of clairvoyance. automatic writing, psychic development, meditation, etc. In a reading, this card often is advice to follow one's inner guidance, to keep one's own council. The Eight of Swords This is a card of using our own mental powers to attack ourselves The Eight of Swords represents the tendency to build up negative thoughts, fears, and assumptions to build an inner prison of one's own making. This is the card of the closed mind. This is a card that says that a person would rather be right about their point of view than be happy and willing to see it differently. This is a card of paranoia, blame, shame, secrets and many neuroses, along with prejudices and a general unwillingness to compromise. In a reading, the Eight of Swords describes a person who needs to snap out of it and stop believing their own nonsense. If this person really wants to be happy, they need to think better thoughts. If they can't change their thoughts on their own, they need to find someone to help them.. The Eight of Coins The Eight of Coins speaks of financial flux and flow. Eights describe energy that is always busy and never rests. It is mental energy. Since the Coins represent finances and assets, the Eight of Coins often brings up the need for healthy flow in one's finances. This can mean either needing to let some money flow out or in, or to stop a flow that is a drain. The other cards in the spread will give more information.
